I’ve hidden this piece away in my closet since I started and finished it in a rage in May. It made me wildly uncomfortable to look at or even hang on my wall, like it was an unsightly blemish I tried to cover over and over again with no avail, so I hid it from myself. Pretended it didn’t exist until I was ready. There’s many experiences I’ve had with other people — from childhood, to undergrad, to now — that I’ve been seething about for years, afraid to even bring it back up. There’s so many things I want to say to those people who treated me like crap, abused their power as adults, dug their nails into my heart and tore it to shreds, made me feel like I was nothing without their friendship, and went on about their lives as if they didn’t leave a mess in their wake. I have a right to privacy, especially in my artwork. [redacted] could be one person, could be multiple, could just be [redacted]. You decide.
[redacted], you disturb everyone else’s peace but your own selfishness is exempt? Convenient. The most deep of sins, forgotten. The absolute grace you didn’t deserve. Horribly convenient, you count your blessings; your faults. Repent for the sins and transgressions you forced. How do you serve only your self? Do you know what happiness you’ve stifled? Of course. No, I won’t forget. You will not find the forgiveness you seek in my heart. I hope you feel my anger.
Fraud /frōd/: noun. wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in personal or financial gain.
